In light of Halloween, here is a tip on how to improve your corpse pose (Savasana). As enjoyable as Savasana is, it is commonly interpreted as an end to our practice and a time to shut everything down. However, it is an opportunity for us to understand what we just practiced and truly connect our practice to ourselves. Here are a few tips that can help you have a better Savasana:
1. Be comfortable
- Support your head
- Tuck your shoulders under, sliding your shoulder blades under your back and opening your chest.
- Arms relaxed and 45 degrees from your body
2. Let go – allow your mind and body to relax, letting go of tension and thoughts. Sometimes it may be hard to really disconnect from the world so don’t rush and give yourself time to deepen into this pose.
3. Stay aware – although you are letting go of your thoughts, it is not a time to catch up on sleep! Focus on your breath to keep your mind engaged and connected with your body.
